WWII WW2 Japanese Samurai Sword w Family Crest -MON-
Super rare Army Officer's Sword with solid silver family mon or crest. Only
the high ranking officers or officers with important families, usually
samurai class families, had the silver family mon attached to their swords!
Swords with the silver family mon are very rare and seldom come up on ebay!
Every important family had their own distinct family crest or mon and it was
attached to their swords for class and distinction, plus good luck! Sword is
in excellent condition - has full blood grooves on both sides and wavy
line - easily seen along the edge, no nicks to edge - tip is pointy and
sharp. Blade measures 33 inches which is unusually long! This must have been
a very tall officer- which is rare for Japanese. Handle measures 5 inches
for an overall measurement of 38 inches! Again, very long sword! Nice medal
scabbard. in mn.

It could still be a replica.

No; that's not unusually long. A daito katana with a 48" blade is
unusually long. (You can see one of those in "The Seven Samurai".)

Look like a fairly commonplace kyu-gunto parade sabre. Only a
company-grade officer, not a field-grade, but the mokko mon is a nice
touch.

Up to 39" overall is known for the parade sabres, although 35" is more
typical.

For iaido, I use a long shin-gunto that's 40" overall. My other
shin-gunto are about 37"

Its GENUINE guaranteed! It came home with a WW2 Vet in 1945....
In fact he brought home a few swords, I just have not listed them yet....
All Guaranteed Genuine Japanese made well before 1945 !!!!!
AND its the longest parade sword I have ever had anyway, and I have had
around 20 to 30 of them in the past 25 years....

Ever consider returning them to the families who's crest is on them?
I bet if your family member's sidearm was taken from the battlefield,
you'd appreciate getting it back 50 years later.

The pictures aren't coming up, so I can't give an opinion on the sword;
however, the idea of retuning a sword to the owner based on a Mon is purely
an urban legend. It was heavily promoted by a Japanese buyer a several
years back who was trying to convince veterans that if they sold their
bringback swords to him, he would "return them to their original Samurai
heritage". A conveniently ambiguous statement - which actually meant he was
taking them back to Japan and selling them in his shop.
