I have a half-dozen or more "bad" monitors I'm looking to give away.
Problems range from burn-in, dim or blurry, intermittent flickering, and
one or more shot color guns. They work, however, and I hate to throw
them away if someone has a use for them. (So it's finally time to retire
that ancient IBM 12" display sitting on top of a server chugging away in
the closet, and upgrade to a new-and-improved junker!)

take a look at
http://www.moea.state.mn.us/plugin/recyclers-household.cfm

there are many options. for example,

In Minnesota, consumers can get free recycling of Sony-brand electronics and
personal-computer equipment at several Waste Management, Inc. sites around
the state.

Dell Recycling now offers electronics recycling, including shipping and
pickup, for $15 per 50 lb. box. Dell accepts computer equipment and
peripherals from any manufacturer.

Through the IBM PC Recycling Service, consumers and small businesses can
recycle any manufacturer's PCs, including system units, monitors, printers
and optional attachments for $29.99 which includes shipping

United Recycling Industries | 1-800-270-8220
URI's Electronic Take-Back Program will accept obsolete computers and
peripherals from any manufacturer for recycling or reuse. Call the toll-free
number, use the online form, or send an email < takeback@
unitedrecycling.com > to order a pre-paid shipping label ($27.99).
Put your computer hardware (PCs, monitors, printers, other external units)
into a box, attach the pre-paid label, and take it to a UPS shipping site.
Working equipment will be donated when possible. Recycling includes
erasing computer hard drives...

I don't know if that will work. Last time I was at a Hennepin
county center they said there was a limit of how many of
certain things you could drop off for free every year. IIRC it
was one TV per year. I don't know if there was a limit on
computer monitors. The appeared to be keeping track of your
visits in a database....
